Our first Student Saturday feature of January 2021 is Dalaney Bates! Dalaney is from the Unionville Sebewaing Area FFA Chapter and serves as chapter President. She is also a District Representative for Region III. Dalaney’s favorite FFA event is National FFA Convention. For her, National Convention is an opportunity to bond with her chapter.
Dalaney’s SAEs are Beef Production and Diversified Livestock Production. This year, Dalaney named her heifer Cocobutter!
Dalaney’s advice to younger FFA members is: “Get involved and take every opportunity that you are given!”
Outside of FFA, Dalaney is an active member of 4-H and Yearbook Club. Dalaney also has her own business, Picture This Photography DLB!
A fun fact about Dalaney is that she drives a Buick named Barbara! Dalaney’s future plans include continuing her photography career, and creating a floral business. Her goal is to create special moments that people can keep forever!
Our second January Student Saturday feature is Liz Henderson from the Alcona FFA Chapter! She has been an FFA member for five years!
Liz’s supervised agriculture experience is placement at a horse ranch! She makes sure the horses have adequate food, water, and exercise. She also makes sure the barn and pastures are well tended for the horses.
Her favorite FFA event was attending National FFA Convention with her best friend! Advice she would give to younger members is “Always take every opportunity you’re given. If you are nervous about a leadership contest, a meeting, being an officer, or going to a convention, just try it. You will get so much out of those opportunities. Push yourself to see what you can accomplish, because in the long run it will add up to countless great things!”
Outside of FFA, she plays varsity basketball and softball. She also works at a local veterinary clinic. After high school, she will be going to Northern Michigan University for a degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders. After receiving her bachelors, she would like to work towards a masters degree in Speech/Language Pathology. She chose this path as she gained so much confidence in her speaking abilities through FFA!
Liz also loves the outdoors, has two brothers, two dogs, and one cat, and is also six feet and one inch tall!
Our final Student Saturday feature from January 2021 is Micah Gordon from the Bad Axe FFA chapter. Micah is serving as his chapter’s President and the Region III Vice-President. He is the first Regional Officer from Bad Axe since the chapter was reestablished. His SAEs are both Poultry and Livestock Production.
After high school, Micah plans to further his education and then return to Bad Axe and be an influential member of his community.
