Our featured #StudentSaturday from the month of October is Ty Mott! Ty is a senior at Olivet High School and has been an FFA member for five years.
When asked how is FFA journey started, Ty stated, “I joined in seventh grade because FFA looked cool and I thought it would be a fun experience.” Since joining FFA, Ty has competed in multiple events, including parliamentary procedure, extemporaneous public speaking, and ag mechanics. Ty has also received several awards and degrees on the chapter level, as well as two on the state level.
As for servant leadership, Ty is his chapter’s Student Advisor and the Region 1 Treasurer. Outside of the classroom, Ty has multiple supervised agricultural experiences. Currently, Ty has an SAE of agricultural placement, is growing beef cattle for breeding purposes, and is also growing a cash crop of wheat.
When asked what one piece of advice Ty had for new members, he stated, “Take every opportunity you can and push your limits, don’t take the easy path, take one that will make you a better person. If you are bad at speaking but good at parli pro, go for public speaking to make yourself work for it.”
Outside of FFA, Ty is currently attending Kalamazoo Community College for welding, as well as taking classes for diesel mechanics at Calhoun Area Career Center. Ty also participates in trap shooting for Olivet.
