Amidst the Thumb’s powerhouse agricultural industry, Wade Messing, a 17-year-old leader from the Ubly FFA Chapter, stands as a beacon of hard work and dedication. The hours and dedication he’s invested in growing his career and life skills would make any community proud.
“FFA has allowed me to grow and expand my leadership skills and my on-the-job training,” Wade shares, his commitment evident. “Being able to take everything that I have learned and apply it to the real world will truly impact my future.”
Wade’s journey began with a placement Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE) at Maurer Meats, a family-owned business deeply rooted in the community. Over two years, Wade has grown from a novice to a skilled, trusted employee, mastering the art of processing meats and providing top-notch customer service.
At Maurer Meats, Wade has taken on various roles, from processing burgers to cutting meats and sanitizing work areas. His favorite part of the job? Connecting with customers and making a positive impact on their day.
For Wade, FFA has been more than just an organization; it’s been a springboard for personal and professional growth. His commitment to excellence and unwavering work ethic are a testament to the values instilled by the FFA program.
As Wade looks ahead to his future, with plans to pursue an associate degree in engineering at Delta Community College and a bachelor’s degree from Saginaw Valley State University, his journey serves as an inspiring example to aspiring FFA members everywhere.
“Wade has developed an outstanding work ethics in the past four years,” his FFA Advisor Mrs. Melissa Kramer remarks. “He’s approached both his work in the classroom and his SAE with true commitment.”
Wade’s dedication hasn’t gone unnoticed, earning him the prestigious title of Michigan FFA Star in Placement finalist. Alongside him are two other exceptional individuals: Blake Herremans from the Montague FFA Chapter and Jordan Schave from the North Huron FFA Chapter.
