Wesley Rogers, a member of the Mason FFA Chapter, has built a diverse and impressive Supervised Agricultural Experience that reflects both his entrepreneurial mindset and his commitment to continuous growth. As a Michigan FFA Star Finalist in Agribusiness, Wesley’s journey showcases how curiosity, hands-on skills and strong relationships can come together to create meaningful business opportunities.
Through FFA, Wesley found more than just experiences. He found connections that shaped his leadership and outlook. “FFA has given me the opportunity to build connections with hundreds of people I never would have met otherwise,” he shared. From industry professionals to close friends from chapters hours away, those relationships have expanded his network and strengthened his desire to make a positive impact. FFA also helped him grow as a leader and provided him with skills to better serve the people and communities around him.
Wesley’s agribusiness journey began with a spark of interest in welding during a middle school shop class. What started as a hands-on skill quickly turned into a passion, and eventually, a business. Through Rogers Welding and Fabrication, Wesley designs and fabricates livestock gates, blower stands, show makeup pens and firewood holders. One of the most rewarding aspects of his welding enterprise has been working directly with customers. Whether repairing cattle chutes or completing large custom fabrication projects, Wesley collaborates closely with clients to design solutions and source materials that best meet their needs.
After successfully establishing one business, Wesley saw an opportunity to expand even further. He launched Rogers Lawn and Landscaping, focusing on precision, consistency and customized service. By intentionally maintaining a small client base, Wesley provides personalized solutions ranging from routine landscape maintenance to large-scale projects such as bed restorations and retaining walls. His favorite part of landscaping is transforming neglected outdoor spaces into functional and attractive environments through thoughtful design and quality construction.
Throughout his SAE, Wesley learned the value of saying yes to opportunity. “The biggest lesson I’ve learned from my SAE is to take every opportunity, no matter how small it may seem,” he explained. “Even minor experiences can lead to valuable lessons or meaningful connections that positively shape the future.” That mindset has driven him to explore new ideas, refine his skills and grow each business with intention.
Wesley encourages other FFA members to approach their experiences with the same openness. “Try everything and don’t be afraid to step outside of your comfort zone,” he advised. While challenges may arise, he believes the confidence and skills gained are always worth the effort.
Through his SAE, Wesley had the opportunity to start two businesses, an experience that has strongly influenced his career aspirations. “This has allowed me to dive deeper into the business world, which I’ve found really interesting,” he shared, noting that these ventures helped him build connections with mentors and professionals he can learn from well into the future. After graduating from Mason High School, Wesley plans to continue his education by pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Agribusiness Management.
The Michigan FFA Star in Agribusiness Award recognizes students who demonstrate excellence, leadership and innovation through their Supervised Agricultural Experiences. Wesley Rogers exemplifies those qualities through his entrepreneurial drive, dedication to quality and commitment to lifelong learning. He will be recognized as a finalist for this award at the 98th Michigan FFA State Convention, held March 4-6, 2026, on the campus of Michigan State University alongside fellow finalists Kenzie Everett from Ionia and Nathan Radomski from Laker.
