With a relentless work ethic and an entrepreneurial spirit, William Rogers has transformed his passion for agriculture into a thriving business that not only showcases his dedication, but sets an inspiring example for fellow FFA members. And that’s why he’s a finalist for the 2025 Michigan FFA Star in Production Award.

William’s journey began with starting his very own pumpkin business. Nestled amongst population centers of southeast Michigan, he cultivates not just pumpkins but a range of gourds, popcorn and ornamental corn varieties. Setting up two stands and partnering with a local store, he has learned the intricacies of marketing his crops, effectively connecting with customers and making sales. Whether it’s transforming a good harvest into a successful venture or enticing passersby with vibrant displays, William embraces every lesson with enthusiasm, embodying the essence of a true entrepreneur.

But pumpkin growing is just the tip of the iceberg for William’s diverse supervised agricultural experience (SAE). With a passion for livestock, he has taken on the exciting challenge of raising, showing and selling a variety of animals, including steers, feeder calves, rabbits, goats, lambs, turkeys and chickens. Moreover, William has taken his passion further by breeding his own rabbits and goats. His Californian rabbits have garnered several accolades, often winning grand or reserve champion at local fairs. You can often find William at the county and community fairs, proudly exhibiting his animals and showcasing the results of his hard work.

One of the highlights of his agricultural journey is undoubtedly the fair auctions at the end of each year. For William, this moment is the ultimate reward, where hard work culminates in recognition and success. His commitment and dedication shine through as he prepares for the auctions, attending to every detail with painstaking care.

As he approaches graduation, William looks forward to continuing his education at Michigan State University, where he plans to pursue a bachelor’s degree in agribusiness. His experiences and accomplishments through FFA have equipped him with a solid foundation, preparing him to navigate the complexities of the agricultural industry.

Just weeks away from awarding the Michigan FFA Star in Production Award, it’s time to celebrate the exceptional achievements of the three finalists: William Rogers from the Saline FFA Chapter, Colby Tucker from the Hopkins FFA Chapter and Luke Volmering from the Ubly FFA Chapter. These outstanding individuals embody the spirit of hard work, dedication and excellence that defines FFA.
